Sleeping bags - what weight do they need to be??

I am looking to buy some sleeping bags for general use and would like to know about the weights of them. Some are 200, 250 or 300 presume this is how thick they are is a 200 a summer bag or winter? Can they be compared to the tog rating of quilts? Please help.
